Ali attended Wellesley College and studied art history. The magazine she worked for was Fashion upon graduation. After graduating, her passion for fashion brought her to the position of an elite model. The model career continued until the year 1968. That was when she started a very intermittent film career because of the marriage with Steve McQueen.
