Ani Difranco

Angela Maria Ani DiFranco was born in Canada, and is now American. She has released over 20 albums of studio work. DiFranco's music has been classified as folk rock as well as alternative rock, but it has additional elements of punk, funk, hip beat and jazz. The widely regarded feminist icon Grammy winner Ani DiFranco is considered to be the father of the DIY movement being one of the first artists to create her own record label in the year 1990. DiFranco was the child of Elizabeth (Ross), and Dante Americo DiFranco. They began their relationship at The Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her father is of Italian heritage, while her mother hails from Montreal. Ani Difrasco wrote and recorded the hit song "32 Flavors".
